Electric bicycle safety technical specifications officially released

China's ministry of industry and information technology issued a revised set of safety technical specifications for electric bicycles on April 15, 2019, giving manufacturers an 11-month transition period to upgrade their technology.

But due to incomplete past safety standards, resulting in frequent accidents. According to statistics, from 2013 to 2017, the national total of electric bicycle accident cause person casualties of 56200 road traffic accidents, deaths of 8431 people, 63500 people were injured, the direct property loss 111 million yuan.

After the official implementation of the new standard, the provinces will formulate measures for the purchase of e-bikes that do not conform to the new standard, and gradually dissolve the problem within a few years through natural scrapping, trade-in and buyback.
