The original design of lithium polymer batteries started in the 1970s. They stand different from other conventional battery systems because of the electrolyte they use. It is like a plastic film that doesn’t conduct electricity. It, however, allows ion exchange.

Advantages include:

· Very low profile. These batteries resemble a credit card and are therefore very feasible.

· They come in flexible forms. Unlike other batteries, manufacturers don’t have to focus on standard cell formats. Because of their high volume, they can be produced in any size.

· They are lightweight. They can, therefore, be packaged easily without a metal shell.

· Safer. They are more resistant to overcharge with reduced chances of electrolyte leakage.
