Method of Reconditioning Lithium Ion Batteries

Jun 15, 2019   Pageview:865

Lithium ion batteries are the greatest invention of science, done back in the 1970s and from that time their usage can be seen in all types of industries. The best thing about Lithium Ion Batteries is their power of keeping the charge store. You can store electricity in such batteries for an extended period of time. Due to this property, these batteries are being used in almost all types of portable devices. Either these are smaller ones like in MP3 players or mobile phones, in complex technology devices like laptops and MacBooks, or in the bigger machines like vehicles and motors, etc. these batteries are being used in all types of industries. Lithium Ion Batteries are also known as Li-ion batteries.

How do Lithium Ion Batteries Work? Basically, these Lithium Ion Batteries have two types of charges in them; one is positive while the other one is negative. Now, when these batteries are used, the negative electrodes move to the positive electrode side and then come back to their side when batteries are charged. This movement of electrodes produces power of electricity that helps appliances, devices, and machines to work. Now, a special sort of lithium compound is used in Lithium Ion Batteries. This is an intercalated compound that helps Lithium Ion Batteries to store power and energy for longer periods of time. You will not find this intercalated lithium compound in other sorts of batteries that are not rechargeable and have no capacity to store energy.

Lithium Ion Batteries have so many positive points and so many benefits for the users. Such as they have low discharge rate. All kinds of batteries have a problem of self-discharge that decreases their life over the years. This self-discharge happens due to chemical reactions happening in the batteries. This cannot be stopped however diminished over the years. However, Lithium Ion Batteries come with a very low self-discharge rate. Due to this, they work faster and remain in working for extended periods of time. Secondly, the energy density of Lithium Ion Batteries is too high. High energy density means keeping the highest powers safe inside for longer periods of time and giving enough energy to the devices dependent on Lithium Ion Batteries to work.

However, as nothing comes without problem, same is the case with Lithium Ion Batteries. Here are some common issues that you will find in Lithium Ion Batteries:

Common Lithium Ion Battery Issues:

1.Lithium Ion Batteries Require Great Care:

Due to being highly dependable, the major drawback that comes with Lithium Ion Batteries is the care. From charging timing to storage and other processes, your presence and involvement are required at all stages. Lithium Ion Batteries are too fragile due to which you need protection circuits. These protection circuits come in the package of storage. What these protection circuits do is keep up with the cells during charging and never lets it drop too low or too high. You need to keep an eye on the charging time as well as too much charging can cause damages in the Lithium Ion Batteries. The batteries get swelled or too hot during charging time. In such cases, they need to be removed from the devices immediately and keep in refrigerators to get cold. Make sure not to come near bloated or hot Lithium Ion Batteries as it can blast and injure you.

2.The Maximum Life Of Battery Is Lower Than Price:

Secondly, the lifespan of Lithium Ion Batteries is maximum of 3 years, when used with great care and effort. After every three years, Lithium Ion Batteries require replacement. However, compared to this, the price of Lithium Ion Batteries is quite high. Due to their advantages, greatest capacity, low-discharge rate, and better performance than other types of batteries, manufacturers charge too high amounts for devices with Lithium Ion Batteries and for Lithium Ion Batteries as well. It is an issue of affordability.

How to Recondition Lithium Ion Batteries:

Recondition means reviving the lithium ion batteries. In case you find that your battery is showing some unusual performance, here are the things you can do:

1.Unplug the charging device from the lithium ion battery and detach it from the power source.

2.Remove lithium ion batteries from the device where it was attached at the time of charging.

3.Pick up the voltmeter and check voltage of the battery to see if the battery is in sleep mode.

Sleep mode of battery is a mode where power of the battery is completely finished and it requires too much and time and sometime a shock from outside to work again. It happens when you let your battery draining power too much and for too many times. Therefore, don’t let your lithium ion batteries drain power and charge when you see them on low power.

4.Voltmeter when shows rate of 1.5 volts for a battery, it means it has gone into sleep mode.

Reconditioning Lithium Ion Battery Tools:

For the Reconditioning of Lithium Ion Batteries, you need certain tools. Here are names of the tools you need for reconditioning lithium ion battery:

5.You need safety glasses in order to keep your eyes safe from any mishap during reconditioning process.

6.You need a voltmeter to check the power of the lithium ion battery as if this is in sleep mode or not

7.You need a charger to recharge lithium ion battery. Make sure you use original and dedicated lithium ion battery charger.

8.You need a USB cable (it is used to attach the charger with device having lithium ion battery) having a separate USB cable is an optional tool and not necessary to have.

9.You need a power source by using which batteries will be charged, it can be a power bank or direct circuit plug, etc.

10.You need crocodile clips to pick the hot battery

11.You need metal nails.

12.You need metal clips

13.You need paperclips made of metals.

By using these tools, you can do Lithium Ion Battery Reconditioning.
