If you want to give award of best supporting actor, it must go to lipo batteries because there isn’t a single device that’s not supported by this battery. Didn’t get it? Well, the batteries used in your laptops, mobiles, and all other portable devices are lipo batteries and I don’t think that you don’t know about their importance. Lipo batteries are integral pieces of technology to give best support to your devices; for example, they offer devices with energy to work for longer periods of time. They are easy to charge yet extremely convenient to use. For this very reason, I want to give them award of playing the best supportive role in technology.

Lipo batteries are lithium polymer batteries, short formed as lipo batteries. These batteries have lithium ions in it that keep moving from positive side to the negative side in order to produce current. When it comes to charging the batteries, these ions start to move very fast that at a point, lipo batteries become too hot. However, this is not a feasible condition for batteries so these should be discharged from the plugs or else serious technical damages can occur. This can result in health damages too. Moreover, batteries can blast and become un-useable for forever.

Lithium batteries, despite of having amazing benefits, are too sensitive, not only in terms of charging but also in terms of storage. Therefore, you should not only take care of the charging time of the batteries but also while unplugged or stored. Lipo batteries are sensitive of temperatures because lithium ions are in moving continuously, though with slower speed when batteries are on low charging.

Moreover, the ions of lithium in the batteries are temperature sensitive so these mustn’t be kept in the heavy sunshine or lowest temperature zones. However, lowest temperature zones don’t affect the battery as worst as the higher temperatures. Due to this, lipo batteries are not recommended to keep in the direct heat or sunshine for too long. These are also not recommended to keep in the colder areas or icy places for too long.

As I said, coldness doesn’t affect the batteries as badly as the hotness, because colder batteries can be revived. However, it is not recommended that you store your batteries on too cold or too hot places for their best health.

But how batteries should be stored??? Here are answers of some questions that occur in your mind when you think of storing the lipo batteries.

What Is The Correct Lipo Storage Voltage For lipo batteries?

In case, you are not using the batteries, and want to store them for some time while going somewhere, you must check the temperature of the batteries. I am saying this because; first the lipo batteries are temperature sensitive, secondly higher or lower temperatures can get the blast or dead. But what should be the correct storage voltage of the battery while storing?  Remember, you must never store a fully charged battery because lithium ions will be moving too fast in it. Due to which, the temperature of the batteries can even rise at room temperature. The faster movement of the ions for too long means it will start discharging the fluid that works as a life for your lipo batteries.

Therefore, if your battery is fully charged, you must discharge it before storage. How to do it? We will cover it in the answers coming ahead. So, the feasible and correct storage voltage of the lipo battery at time of storing should be 3.85V per cell.

How Long Can Lipo Battery Be Stored?

Well, the time of storing and keeping the batteries depends upon its charge. As much as the charge, for that less time it can be stored. I mean, a fully charged battery mustn’t be stored for more than two days. If you need more storage time for your battery, it should be discharged to 3.6v-3.8v per cell. In this case, you can keep your batteries stored for more than weeks or less than a month. Storing the lipo batteries for more than that time can damage their health and charging power.

Moreover, lipo batteries should not be stored in the tight metal boxes. This is because metal is a good conductor of heat and current. In case you store your batteries in the metal boxes, the conductivity of the batteries can be affected.

How to Discharge a Lipo Battery for Storage?

Now, to the last question? How to Discharge A Lipo Battery For Storage. Well, there are days in which we need to move to somewhere instantly yet we cannot keep the batteries and all the devices we own for too long with us. In this case, if your batteries are fully charged, you must have to discharge them to a point that makes them safe to store. For this concern, you need voltmeter, batteries, and a device with that consume heavy charge.

Take your batteries and attach them with the voltmeter to check the temperature or the charging inside them. In case, the battery power is more than 3.85V per cell. You will have to discharge it. It is time to attach your battery with a device or thing that sucks energy faster. You can use torch lights in this regard because they consume batteries faster. To attach the device with batteries, you can use crocodile clipper.

Now, keep it attached for some time and after that remove it from the torch light. Now, it is time to attach it once again with the voltmeter and check its temperature. Now, the temperature of the battery should be 3.85V per cell. If it is so, the battery is safe to store.

Lastly, keep your batteries in a place where there is no sunshine, not so high temperature, and neither so low. You can safely store your battery now for more than a week or less than a month and use it later. You will find your batteries in the best condition.
