18650 Battery Test Results-Test and Results

Jan 17, 2020   Pageview:2201

The 18650 battery test results are significant because they help you to determine the amount of energy that they can store. Besides, the test results can also help you know when your battery is nearing the end or needs replacement.

18650 batteries refer to the lithium-ion cells that measure 18mm*65mm in size. They are slightly larger than the AA types of batteries. Besides, they are mostly used in laptops, high-drain devices, and flashlights. The primary reason that makes them suitable for such devices of their capacity and discharge rates. Furthermore, they boast a lifespan of 300-500 cycles and have flat ends on both sides.

Typically four factors affect battery life and performance. These factors are cyclic life, recharge rate, temperature, and depth of discharge. The same applies to the 18650 batteries making them have different test results.

Besides the performance and life of the 18650, different brands have different test results. For example, the Samsung model 35e 3500mAh has a CDR rating of 8A while LG MJ1 3500mAh has a CDR rating of 10A.

If you want to check your 18650 battery test results, then you can use a rechargeable capacity meter. It is a simple device for monitoring the discharge rate and capacity of your battery.

If you want to choose the best 18650 battery, then select the one that is slightly above the minimum discharge requirement of your device. Afterward, you can then focus on the charge capacity.

Can you test your 18650 battery by yourself?

Low Temperature High Energy Density Rugged Laptop Polymer Battery 11.1V 7800mAh
Low Temperature High Energy Density Rugged Laptop Polymer Battery Battery specification: 11.1V 7800mAh -40℃ 0.2C discharge capacity ≥80% Dustproof, resistance to dropping, anti - corrosion, anti - electromagnetic interference

Yes, it is possible to test the the18650 battery by yourself. All you need to have are the right gears. For example, you can use a rechargeable battery capacity meter to measure the capacity or discharge energy. Besides, you can also use it to measure other kinds of batteries apart from li-ion.

Testing batteries by yourself is a great advantage because you can easily detect counterfeits, check the efficiency of the charging method or the health of the cell. The market has been flooded with so many counterfeit products lately.

Testing the 18650 battery by yourself is very easy using the battery capacity analyzer. First, you need to make sure that it's fully charged then connect it to the capacity meter. Now the battery will start discharging via the meter. That helps in determining its energy and capacity.

You can select the discharge current starting from the range of 0.01A to 2.56A following 0.01A steps. After reaching the cut off voltage, discharge is terminated. If you want to get the actual voltage, then you first need to adjust the trimmer P1. Besides, the shunt resistor is the one responsible for sensing the discharge current.

You can quickly obtain the reference voltage from the integrated circuit terminal by pulse with modulation. Besides, if you are unable to set up this device, you can seek help from experts. That way, you will be able to know if your cells are fake or dangerous. Also, it can help resellers detect lo quality cells hence saving them from losses.

What is the highest capacity 18650 battery?

Because 18650 batteries size is fixed, 0 represents the cylindrical shape, 65 the height, and 18 the diameter. However, how much maximum capacity that this type of battery carry is still a topic of discussion. So many practitioners and scientists have also found themselves in this debate.

Various manufacturers, especially in China, have improved their technology in development and experimental research. So even the capacity and other aspects are still advancing slowly. Some labs have been able to make the 18650 cells that have a larger capacity than the 3500 mAh.  However, the stability consistency and mass production trend is not suitable for now

Please note that there are so many manufacturers out there labeling the 18650 battery with fake specifications. For instance, you will find out that some even have an exaggerated capacity of 9800 mAh. Furthermore, it is very easy for them to get away with the fake specs because not many consumers will test these products.

The highest capacity of the 18650 battery that is in shipping today by many top brands is 3500 mAh. Anything beyond 4,000 mAh is probably a fake product. Furthermore, you will also find out that some of these overrated products are being sold very cheaply. For example, I came across a 9,800 that was being sold at $1 on eBay. But when you compare genuine products like Panasonic 3,500 mAh, the price is around 8.

Many of the cells that are above 3500 are not reputable. So always take that precaution before purchasing. The 18650 battery that has more than this capacity exists, but they are tough to find. So the official highest capacity is 3500 mAh.  Samsung 21700 48G has a genuine capacity of 4800 mAh. This is probably the highest genuine product so far.

What is a high amp 18650 battery?

When we talk about the amp, we refer to the ampere-hour, which is sometimes abbreviated as Ah. It measures the amount of charge in one hour that can allow one ampere of current to flow. The rate of current or electron flow in an electrical conductor is measured using the ampere units.

So a high amp 18650 battery is the one that has the highest amount of charge that can allow one ampere of current to flow in one hour. You can measure the amp of a 18650 battery by first measuring its output voltage. Next, you can look for a steady draw, such as an LED light that uses the same volt. Now connect the two and wait. Let's say the LED light is 5v, 1 A., so if it stays lit for 10 hours, your battery has 1Ah of power.
