Jun 01, 2021   Pageview:961

A car battery is a component of the inner workings of a vehicle that is sometimes taken for granted. When it works properly, the car starts and the electronics turn on. But, when the battery loses its charge, it will leave you stuck with a car that cannot start. Regular battery tests can help you avoid potential problems on the road and warn you when the battery begins to lose or cannot hold a charge.

Battery technology has advanced over the years, in terms of power, durability, and longevity. In today's cars, the batteries not only provide the spark required to start the engine and operates the vehicle accessories, but also alert you when the battery is discharging faster than it supposes to.

The increased battery discharge message is a form of protection warning that every BMW has to protect its battery and leaves sufficient power to start the engine, but in most cases, the battery still okay but it is not to keep all the components on. This problem affects all BMWs.

Several BMW owners have complaint about receiving increase battery discharged messages. The message is to alert you that the battery is about to run out and that the car needs time to charge it before turning the engine off again. Increased battery discharge is not only an evaluation of the battery or state of charge; you may receive this message even if the battery is almost completely charged.

Increased Battery Discharge When Stationary

The purpose of the increased battery discharge message is to alert the driver that the vehicle battery discharging faster than the alternator can charge it. You can take out the phone charger from the cigarette socket, turn off needless accessories like audio systems, seat heaters, and keep the engine running until the message disappears. It may take five to thirty minutes of charge and the battery will reset.

This message usually appears when you start your BMW for the first time in the morning, especially during cold weather, however, you may also experience increased battery discharge when stationary at a red light. If you get this warning message on your dash, some electronic consumers like heated seats, door locks, blower fan, and, interior light may turn off automatically to conserve the battery life.

Don't fret if some of your vehicle items stop working. This does not mean that there something wrong with the systems. Your vehicle is trying to quickly charge the main battery. Everything will return to normal once the increased battery discharge warning message disappears. The next thing is to confirm that the battery is in good condition and has the proper charge if the problem persists. If the battery was recently replaced, make sure you register the battery. The next stage in solving this problem is to carry out a charging system test. You will need a battery analyzer to perform this test.

What does increased battery discharge mean?

Increase battery discharge warning message means that the battery cannot deliver enough cranking amps. This could because of a low battery charge or a poor battery connection. During cold climates (below 10 ° C), people make short-distance drives more frequently as they also used more accessories. These accessories can also cause a significant drain on the battery. Folks will drive to the grocery store, stop the car, shop for half an hour, and then return back to the car starting the cycle again. Most new cars have a feature called Engine Start/Stop that is designed to provide gasoline when you stop at the light, and this feature turns off the engine but does not turn off any of the other consumers.

It can be difficult to keep the battery charge up with so many power consumers, especially during cold weather. Driving short distances with all of these car accessories consumes a lot of power. This will make the battery discharge to a point where the current charge start is less than the minimum as detected by the engine computer. The vehicle may start the next time, but except it has been driven for at least 50 to 60 minutes, it may not have enough time to completely recover.

You need to check the battery life and replace it if it is more than five years old. But if it is new or has been recently replaced, make sure the battery is properly coded. Charge the battery full with a battery charger or drive your vehicle for at least 30 minutes. If the message reappears, it's time for further troubleshooting. The next test you can run is to measure the battery voltage. You will need a digital multimeter for this test.

They are easy to use. When the engine stops, just connect a multimeter to the positive battery terminal under the hood. The battery should provide at least 12 volts. Turn on the ignition and the battery voltage should stay above 12 volts. Start the vehicle and recheck the voltage. It should be around 13 and 14.5 volts. If the battery does not hold more than 12 volts, it is time to replace the battery.

What is the warranty on a BMW battery?

BMW vehicle batteries usually last between three and five years. So many factors can affect your vehicle battery life; these include temperature, battery design, type, specifications, and driving habits. When buying a BMW, you have to go for the highest quality and reliability. In case of any problem, you will benefit from a full range of protections against unanticipated repair costs.

All batteries will lose some of their charges naturally due to extreme cold and hot temperatures, particularly during changes in seasons. But, in the case of a weak battery, the battery can be fully drained, preventing your car from starting. Any original BMW battery comes with a 2-year unlimited-mileage limited warranty. If the battery is faulty and it is 100 percent proven that the battery was previously damaged and was not broken because of another defect, BMW will definitely replace the battery for you.
