Rechargeable N Cell Batteries – Introduction, Comparison And Charging

Nov 18, 2020   Pageview:673

Batteries exist in different sizes to fit into different equipment that we have at our homes. The batteries meant for spotlights cannot be of the same size as the batteries designed for watches. Therefore, due to advancements in the battery sector, we have a wide range of products.

All the different types of batteries produce a different amount of current and have different capacities. The main thing that we aim here is increasing the battery's ability to last for an extended period.

When you sit and listen to battery users, everyone wants his/her remote controller battery to last for eternity. For this reason, most batteries designed nowadays do last for an extended period. Most of the batteries do not emit any paste-like substances like the battery types used a long time ago.

There are so many rechargeable batteries in the market right now. Manufacturers are trying to deal with the issues of durability because these rechargeable batteries are much durable. We will now look at the rechargeable n cell batteries in detail.

What is n cell battery?

An N battery is a standard sized dry cell battery. It is cylindrically shaped with terminals or contacts in the end; the positive terminal has a nub or bumps on the top. This battery measures 30.2mm long and 12.0mm in diameter.

The length of this battery is about three-fifths of an AA battery. The alkaline type of n cell batteries is designed to last for over five years in storage. The n cell batteries stand for durability, highest energy density, high capacity, and reliability.

They are designed to help offer reliable performance, high efficiency, and long service life. There are two types of n cell batteries; alkaline n cell batteries and rechargeable n cell batteries. The two types are similar in sizes and shapes.

The most common rechargeable n cell battery is Nickel-metal hydride (NiMH). This battery is safe for use because it has very few environmental effects. It also has a higher capacity than NiCad and does not have a significant memory effect.

The nominal voltage of an n cell battery is 1.2 volts, but a factory fresh battery is about 1.35 volts. But this voltage will decline after several recharges. The n cell's capacity is 360 milliamp hours. This means that the battery can supply 360 mA for an hour, but batteries fail to achieve their rating if drained as quickly as an hour.

N cell batteries are mostly used in devices such as Bluetooth headsets, medicals devices, calculators, and electronic toys. The total power capacity (watt-hours) improves with size because more of the cell's mass and dimensions are dedicated to the chemicals that provide electricity and less to the container packaging.

N cell battery is appropriate for saving space and mass at the expense of capacity per volume or mass. These rechargeable n cell batteries will amaze you with their incredible functionality as well as durability.

Are rechargeable batteries better than regular batteries?

Currently, the most common rechargeable batteries are made of nickel-metal hydride (NiMH). This is a more efficient material than reusable alkaline batteries. These rechargeable n cell batteries are chemically sealed to prevent battery leakage from crushing up your electronics.

However, rechargeable batteries are expensive than alkaline batteries because they can be charged many times after the initial purchase. Its price is reasonable considering that the alkaline batteries are used once, then they are disposed of.

Non-rechargeable batteries can be useful in low-drain devices. This makes them last for an extended period. On the other hand, rechargeable batteries are the compelling choice for high-drain gadgets and electronics that a lot of energy.

The initial voltage of a disposable battery tends to make it last longer than its counterpart in most applications. But you need to remember that they are called ‘disposable’ meaning that you will throw them away while another person is recharging his/her battery.

We all need to keep the places that we live clean and free from all hazardous products. Therefore, opting for rechargeable batteries is better because they are environmentally conscious. You can imagine if you use five pairs of disposable batteries every year. After five years, the environment will be shedding tears from the effects of these disposed of batteries.

Rechargeable batteries use little energy, which is approximately 6 Watts per hour. For eight hours, the max average for a charger is 42 Watts per every charge. This makes rechargeable batteries a much better option for everyone.

How do you charge an n cell battery?

The crucial part when it comes to all rechargeable batteries is charging. If you charge your battery in the wrong way or using the wrong charger, you might damage your battery. We are all trying to make our batteries last for an extended period.

Therefore, the first thing that you need to have is a charger recommended by the manufacturer. Do not use just any charger that seems suitable because you might end up damaging your charger or your batteries.

However, you can charge your n cell battery in an AA battery charger using a makeshift adapter. There are available universal battery chargers (with spring-loaded contacts) that can charge the n cell batteries.

For a fixed contact recharger, you can charge your battery using:

  • A perfectly sized spacer – you can make it by yourself or cut off with a hacksaw.

  • A slightly shorter spacer with some coins or washers to make up the difference.

  • A spring (the spring should not fly out).

Conclusion

Getting a battery that can run your device for an extended period could have been quite a long hard time ago. But currently, there are so many battery types available in the market. The best option for you is the rechargeable battery because it can last for over seven years.

You need not worry anymore because sometimes disposable batteries can die when you need them the most. I usually prefer to have a single rechargeable battery for my devices than having over five alkaline batteries.

We must take care of our surroundings by avoiding the habit of disposing of batteries carelessly. We are the ones who will be affected by the chemicals available in these batteries. Keep the environment clean and green all the time.
