Batteries Recharging-Methods and Station

Nov 08, 2021   Pageview:1233

Batteries can perform better and last longer if the user is well-conversant with the right information. For example, the knowledge of batteries recharging stations and methods, as well as chargers and how they work, is very important. In this post, we are going to highlight a few of the basic batteries recharging methods, along with brief information about batteries recharging station.

Batteries Recharging Methods

There are a number of batteries charging methods. Let’s take a look at each of them in detail.

1.Constant Voltage

In the world of batteries charging, a constant voltage charger is simply a direct power current (DC) power supply that may basically consist of one step down transformer typically from the mains containing a rectifier to provide the direct current voltage to charge the battery. This is a simple design that is usually found in low-end car battery chargers. Lithium-ion usually use constant voltage systems, though these tend to be more complex and come complete with added circuitry for the user safety and for protecting the batteries. Also, the lead-acid cells that are used for backup power systems and cars basically use constant voltage chargers.

2.Taper Current

Tapper current is simply charging from what is known as a crude constant voltage source that is not regulated. It is basically not a controlled battery charger. As the cell voltage, or also known as back emf, builds up, the current also diminishes. To avoid this from happening, the charging duration and rate should be limited. Tapper current is suitable only for SLA batteries.

3.Constant Current

A constant current charger is usually used for nickel-metal and nickel-cadmium hybrid batteries or cells. These chargers vary the voltage that they apply to the battery in order to maintain the needed constant flow. The charger switches off automatically immediately the voltage reaches the full-charge level.

4.IUI Charging

IUI charging is a charging profile that is used for the fast charging average flooded lead acid batteries from specific manufacturers. This one is not usually appropriate for all lead acid batteries. The charging profile was developed just recently.

Constant Current

Constant current chargers vary the voltage they apply to the battery to maintain a constant current flow, switching off when the voltage reaches the level of a full charge. This design is usually used for nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal hydride cells or batteries.

Batteries Recharging Station

A battery charging station is basically a unit that provides solar or electric power for two or more devices with portable batteries. A batteries recharging stations are typically used in mp3 players, mobile phones, laptop computers, and electric vehicles. The battery charging system may be connected using a USB or universal serial bus port.

Solar charging stations typically use solar panels or cells to collect electricity. The collected electricity is then used in charging a device like a mobile phone or a laptop computer. A solar charging station is known to offer limited charging power depending on the direct contact of the solar cell with sunlight. It might take a longer time to charge a device is the solar charging station is not in direct sunlight.

In reference to electric vehicles, a batteries recharging station is simply a piece of equipment which supplies electric power for a charging plug-in electric vehicles, including neighborhood electric vehicles, hybrids, buses, trucks, and others. A charging station is also called an electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), or EV charger.

While it is true that batteries can be charged only with DC power, it should be noted that most electric vehicles are equipped with an onboard AC –to-DC converter which lets them to be easily plugged into a standard household AC (alternative current) electric receptacle.

There are also inexpensive low-power public charging stations that will also provide AC charging stations, which is basically an AC power. Much large AC-to-DC converts are usually required for facilitating higher power charging. In this case, the converter is not built into the vehicle. Instead, it is built into a charging station, and the station supplies an already-converted DC power to the vehicle directly, bypassing the onboard converter of the vehicle. These are called “DC charging stations”. Most of the fully electric car models are designed to accept both DC and AC power.

Charging stations typically provides connectors which conform to a wide variety of standards. Most DC charging stations feature multiple connectors to enable them supply a wide range of vehicles.

Typically, public charging stations are usually found at government facilities, or retail shopping centers. Some are also found on the side of the streets.

Batteries Recharging Overnight

Most people only get the chance to charge their batteries at night when they are relaxing at home or when they are asleep. But should you actually leave your battery on the charger overnight with power on? That is the one million dollar question.

The truth is that batteries will always stop charging the moment they are fully charged, The modern battery are equipped with an inbuilt protection chip, which prevents it from overcharging. It stops the current from flowing when the battery is fully charged. However, this doesn’t mean that you should leave your battery charging overnight. There are some real threats of doing so.

For instance there is the threat of trickle charging. This is the now-debunked overcharging threat. It lowers the current matching the consumption rate or discharge rate to maintain 100 percent charge level.

When the battery is left charging overnight, the device to which the battery is installed will continue using the battery in order to stay functional. This means that consumption continues, thereby causing recharging to also continues. This reduces the lifespan of the battery.

Lithium-ion batteries (LiB) recharge faster. They race to 80 percent within a short time. Despite the fact that these batteries are superior among other types of batteries, they also suffer from stress, especially when dwelling at a full state-of-charge. Well, it won’t be affected it does so once in a while. However, when it does so on a consistent basis, its recoverable capacity will significantly drop. The decline will leave a dent on the capacity of the battery.
