Phone batteries are quite delicate to handle and battery health is very crucial for superior phone performance. Caring for your phone batteries is a good habit but trying too many DIY hacks can sometimes cause harm to your phone instead of any good. You might be surprised to know that there is this very famous hack where people put their phones in the freezer to enhance battery performance. Let us find out why people do so and what good it can do for your phone.
Does putting your phone in the freezer make the battery last longer?
It is commonly believed that putting the phone in the freezer can do wonders for your battery life. While there may be some exceptions to this myth, in reality, there is no true logic behind this myth. To understand the logic behind the entire myth of putting the phone in the freezer you will have to understand how a battery works. No matter what kind of battery is installed in your phone it works on the same principle. The battery works when electrons stored in the battery move to the opposing terminal (or electrode) in response to a chemical reaction. However, the electrons can release the charge even when the battery is not in use which is known as self-discharge. Through self-discharge, the battery loses its stored energy. Also, the chemical reaction emits heat which in turn heats the battery and can affect negatively the lifespan of your battery. You might experience quick battery drainage if the battery is quite hot.
To cater to these issues by lessening the life and performance of the battery, some people came up with a myth that storing phones in a freezer might cool down the battery forcing the stored charge to remain intact. This is why they used to store phones in freezers when not in use to avoid battery heating and self-discharge. But does refrigeration helps? The answer is a big NO! Some people might be lucky to get away with this hack but the logic and mechanism do not rationally support this idea. This is because storing phones below 32 degrees can damage your battery and phone body. When you keep the phone in the freezer, the water particles condenses inside the battery causing serious damage to your battery. This is why battery manufacturers advise (with writing on the battery) to use it in a dry, clean place at room temperature.
So, in short, keeping phones in the freezer can do no good to your batteries. You can adopt other good habits to prolong the life of your batteries like using original chargers, restraining from over-charging, not using your phone while charging, etc.
How to turn on a phone with a dead battery?
Having a dead battery is nothing exceptional and can happen to anybody. You need to follow these tricks in case your phone is not turning on because of a dead battery:
Connect the phone to the charger and plug the charger into a power outlet. The battery charging status will start to jump up. Wait for a few minutes before start using the phone.
If putting in the charger does not pop up a charging sign and the battery isn’t charging then chances are the battery is not functional. In that case, open the back cover, pull out the battery, and put the battery aside. Then put on the back cover and connect the phone to the power outlet through a charger. The phone will start charging on the AC power and will turn on.
How do I revive a dead phone battery?
It might be frustrating if your battery dies and you have no idea what to do. Well, there are some simple tips and tricks that can help you revive your phone. If you are using a removable battery then try opening the back cover, removing the battery, cleaning it with a soft cloth, putting it back, and Voila! Hopefully, this will trigger the battery to work again. If this trick doesn’t work or in case your phone doesn’t have a removable battery then what will you do? Well, do not worry because we have tips for that scenario too. In such cases, there are several things you need to try. Here is a list of tips and tricks that will help you to reuse your phone with a dead battery:
Check the power outlet you are plugging your charger in. Sometimes, the power outlet burns or malfunctions and you assume that the problem is in your phone. You can check it by inserting some other charger or maybe the plug of a table lamp to see if it is working. If the power outlet malfunctions then you can try any other power outlet.
If the power outlet is working perfectly, then chances are that your charger is worn out or broken. You can plug in some other phone in your charger to see if it is charging that other phone and ensure that the charger is functional.
In case the charger is also functional, then chances are that your battery is too worn out and tired to charge. In such case you should plug in the charger and let your phone charge for a few hours, preferably overnight, to ensure that you have given enough time to the battery to pick up charges.
If this trick doesn’t work then inspect our charging port. Sometimes moisture and dirt gather at the port causing a hurdle for the charger to pass current at a required level. Cleaning the port and then connecting it to a charger can help you revive your phone.
If none of the above-mentioned tricks work then there might be a chance that this is a software glitch. Try force restarting your phone to revive its’ battery. You can do it by connecting the phone to a charger for a considerable time and if the phone starts to charge then you can restart it to see if the issue resolves.
If the above-mentioned trick doesn’t help then it is time to go for a battery replacement. It is always better to get your battery replaced by an official service center to get an authentic battery for your phone.
