Extensive testing is done when the emergency lights are being installed whereby they are charged for 12 hours duration followed by a thorough anatomy test. Then they are recharged for around 10 hours to measure the performance. If the performance is according to the standard only then the emergency lights are passed for installation. Even after installation, they are quickly retested for about 10 seconds once a month to ascertain that they are working. These batteries are also tested once every year. The price of the emergency lighting battery pack is surely different for different brands. Even within the same brand, the price can differ because of the difference in features. The price range of emergency lights is quite diverse, you can find emergency lights at a low price of $10 to a high price of $150 in general. The price surely reflects the additional features, battery timing, recharging timing, type of battery, and other factors. So, you can purchase the battery that matches your requirements and price range. 

Emergency Lighting Battery Pack Life

The law requires that the battery incorporated in emergency lighting packs should last at least 4 years. It means that ideally, you won't have to replace your battery within four years, and even after that, you might not need to change it if it is working as per your needs. As the law states that the minimum requirement is 4 years so mind this is the minimum limit, not the mandatory stage for battery failure. Though after 4 years the output of some batteries gets compromised they can still work if your output requirement is not that high. Maximum life depends on many other factors including maintenance, fitting, and usage. If you moderately use the emergency lighting then with the new sealed battery technology, you can easily use your batteries for several years with minimum maintenance. Of course, there might be expectations when the battery won’t work before 4 years. In that case, you can always contact the seller and claim a battery replacement. If your battery doesn’t supply power to your emergency lighting pack then before concluding that the battery malfunctions, don’t forget to check the fitting and wiring. A loose-fitting can sometimes restrict the working of an emergency lighting pack. 

As for the life of these emergency lights concerning output, the code of conduct has some rulings here too. The battery packs are required to offer output for a minimum of 30 minutes and a maximum of 120 minutes. 

Emergency Light Battery Pack Replacement

As mentioned above, the law suggests that the minimum life of a battery should be 4 years. So, legally you should change or replace the battery in your emergency lighting pack after four years. Because after 4 years it won't give same output and operate efficiently as per your requirement. 

But! If you are still contented with whatever output it is offering, or in some cases if the output is not compromised then you can keep using it. In that case, you can prolong the replacement time but it will be your responsibility to prolong it. 

While replacing the battery always make sure that you get technical help instead of doing it on your own. Handling batteries and electrical equipment can be tricky and dangerous. This is why hiring a professional electrician is an advised way to replace the battery.
