What is relationship between new energy pure electric vehicles battery capacity and cruising range?

Mar 02, 2019   Pageview:726

The battery capacity of a new energy pure electric vehicle usually measured in kilowatt-hours (kW.h). Larger capacity of battery pack, stronger car's energy storage capacity and greater cruising range. However, increase of battery pack will inevitably increase quality of vehicle, affect performance of whole vehicle and greatly increase production cost. Therefore, finding a balance between cruising range, number of battery packs and production cost has always a major issue for development of electric vehicles.

The cruising range refers to the maximum mileage after the vehicle is fully charged. Let us look at the actual data comparison between the battery capacity and the cruising range of several vehicles.

What is the concept of unit power consumption? Actually, the mileage divided by the battery capacity. Simply put, how many kilometers per kWh of energy is running. For example, the power consumption of the Great Wall C30EV is 7.5, which means that the C30EV can drive 7.5 kilometers per kWh. The BYD e6 and Tesla ModelS seem to have a very long cruising range, but their unit power consumption is low, which clearly reflects the characteristics of "relieving stacked batteries to increase mileage". Therefore, when selecting a car, you must choose a unit with a high power consumption value, because it saves electricity!

Value of cruising range can only used for reference, and it cannot taken it real in actual driving. Because of driving style, weather condition, and number of electrical equipment, all could affect mileage of vehicle. Driving style is relatively flat, and use of electrical equipment as little as possible is very helpful for increasing cruising range. This is also true for traditional fuel vehicles. However, effects of too cold and overheating on cruising range of electric vehicles are far greater than impact on traditional fuel vehicles. Research tests show that under hot weather conditions, mileage of pure electric vehicles will drop by 35% compared with cool weather. Under cold weather conditions, it is down by as much as 57%, less than half of normal driving range. Therefore, we should not believe in cruising range value during driving.
