What is difference between power soft pack battery and power hard pack battery?

Sep 26, 2023   Pageview:298

Whenever you buy a battery, you will notice that they are in fine packaging. Now, there are two types of batteries: power soft pack batteries that you would find in aluminum-plastic film packaging or polymer shells. On the contrary, if we talk about power hard-pack batteries, then you will have them packaged in aluminum shells or steel shells.

This is the main difference between a power soft pack battery and a power hard pack battery. Both come with their benefits and disadvantages. You must choose the right type of battery according to your requirements because a soft pack battery might not sustain where a power hard pack battery would have worked and vice versa.

Both the shells of a power soft pack battery and a power hard pack battery are designed to be used in different environments and for different devices as well. Plus, you will find a variety of sizes of batteries in both power soft pack batteries and power hard pack batteries with different capacities.

Package Structure

As we have talked about power soft pack battery and power hard pack battery, they both have different types of shells that make them different and unique from each other. Both types of batteries are designed for different purposes. So let's talk about the structure of the packaging of both batteries so you can understand the difference in a better way:

●Power Soft Pack Battery Structure

A power soft pack battery consists of an aluminum-plastic film. You won't find any hard material like a shell in a power soft pack battery. As compared to power hard pack batteries, power soft pack batteries don't have much durable sealing that would withstand a pressuring environment and last long.

●Power Hard Pack Battery Structure

Hard-pack batteries get packaged into an aluminum shell or a steel shell. These batteries are further divided into two types: cylindrical and square batteries.

Yes, you will get variety and an option when it comes to power hard-pack batteries according to your needs. If you compare the sealing quality of power hard pack batteries with power soft pack batteries, then you will always find power hard pack batteries a better option.

Safety and Weight

You must know all the details about the product you are considering to purchase. Details like whether the product you are buying is safe enough for you to use or not. So let's talk about these details first. Then you can decide whether a power soft pack battery is a more reliable option or a power hard pack battery:

●Safety and Weight of Power Soft Pack Battery

A power soft pack battery is 40% lighter than a power hard pack battery and 20% lighter than an aluminum casing battery. Now you can imagine how much a power soft pack battery would weigh as they are the lightest ones available in the market. So, if you are looking for a battery that doesn't weigh much, then certainly you must go for a power soft pack battery.

When it comes to safety concerns, then, you must know that the outer casing of a power soft pack battery would only bulge, and it will stop working. Yes, it won't explode or cause any further damage. If there is something wrong with the working environment or with the device to which you have inserted or connected the battery, then the outer shell will bulge.

If you want to buy batteries that are a safer option and that won't explode, then a power soft pack battery is the safest option so far. They don't explode in any circumstances.

●Safety and Weight of Power Hard Pack Battery

Different types and sizes of power hard-pack batteries are available and have different weights. Yes, if you want to buy a big power hard-pack battery, then it might weigh in kg. For example, if we talk about a 12-volt battery, then its weight might be between 15 to 60 kg.

Now you would like to know whether hard-pack batteries are a safer option or not, then you must know that they can explode. Yes, if the pressure gets too much to handle for the power hard pack battery, then it might explode, and there will be no warning. The shell of a power hard-pack battery will not bulge or show signs of any threat. It will simply explode.

A power hard-pack battery is a reasonable, reliable, and resilient option, but eventually, it will explode if the environment keeps affecting it. The heavy metal shell won't be able to take much pressure for a long time.

Cycle Life

Whenever you are going to buy a battery, you should certainly ask about the life cycle because you wouldn't want to replace it any time soon. Well, the life cycle of a battery depends on your usage and how you maintain it, but still, you must have an idea of how long the batteries would survive.

Plus, the life cycle also depends on the type and size of the battery. If we talk about a lithium-ion battery with a 4.2 V cell, then it would last for about 300-500 cycles. We were talking about a power soft pack battery, but when it comes to a power hard pack battery, it will survive longer because you will find them in larger capacities.

A power hard-pack battery that you will find in an electric vehicle lasts for about 1500-2000 cycles. Again, it depends on how you have maintained them so far and their usage as well.

Final remarks

You can choose any option between a power soft pack battery or a power hard pack battery if you are buying them for a specific usage. If there are not any environmental hazards where you will be using those batteries, then they will work fine. On the other hand, if you want to buy batteries that would withstand harsh environments, then make your decision wisely. Both batteries come with their pros and cons; therefore, you must make the right decision.
