Today our lives are made easy by electrical appliances or devices that are in everyday use. From kitchen appliances to mobiles and laptops, we totally depend on these gadgets, and without them, life will become quite hard. All these ease providing devices are powered by batteries that make them an advanced technology because we do not require a switch every time to use them. They can be charged once and can be used anywhere and anytime depending on the requirements.

These battery-operated devices are mostly identified and praised by their charging time and usage time. The ones that are charged in less time and are operational for longer periods are considered as strong and good devices. This strength is due to its batteries.

Taking good care of these batteries extends their lives. The one and only important thing for a battery are to have a good charger so that it remains in good health for a long time. Chargers are mostly neglected by the users that result in damaging the device’s battery and sometimes destroying it.

A good battery charger is a base for durable and good performing batteries. Chargers often receive the “after-thought” status and low priority in a price-sensitive market. Battery and charger are just like a horse and carriage and must go together. Placing the power source at the top priority is prudent planning in general practice. People are often unaware of the complexity involving the power source, especially when charging it under adverse conditions.

Charging speed commonly identified the chargers. When used as directed the low-cost charger with the consumer product performs well. The industrial charger is often including special features, such as charging at adverse temperatures and is often made by a third party. Some batteries operate below freezing points but not all batterie’s chemistries can be charged when cold and most Li-ion batteries come into this category. Lead and nickel batteries accept a charge at lower rates when cold.

When Do You Need A Lithium-Ion Battery Charger 12V

The current battery charging philosophy uses three-stage microprocessor regulated charging profiles because 12 volts charger technology has kept pace with the microprocessor revolution. You won’t find the "smart chargers", and quality units in discount stores. The three steps or stages are bulk, absorption, and float. There is sometimes another stage known as Qualification or equalization stage. For saving batterie’s life and enhancing its capacity one must follow the battery manufacturer's recommendations on charging procedures and voltages or use a quality microprocessor-controlled charger for charging.

A fixed charging voltage, high enough to "force" energy (amps) into the battery is featured by a 12v charger. If initial battery voltages (stare of discharge) are lower than the forcing process will also be easier. The state of charges increases as the battery resistance rises, making it hard for the 12v charger to force the amps in, the amp rate decreases. This takes the charger to a point where it is unable to force any more voltage into the battery, stopping the current. But, this also depends on where the voltage point is. It is possible that it is high enough to overcharge over time or keep the battery in the gassing stage that dries out the flooded type battery. These chargers should be disconnected when the amp meter drops to a low point making their monitoring important.

Are Lithium-Ion Battery Chargers Have Different Voltages

Lithium-ion batteries have different voltages, so the chargers required to charge them differ in voltages too. For Example, A 3.80 Volt charge battery cell has a 40% capacity at the cutoff voltage and 120 min. charge time, and 3.90 Volt charge battery cell has 60% capacity at the cutoff voltage and 135 min. charge time. Similarly, a 4.00 Volt charge battery cell has 70% capacity at the cutoff voltage and 150 min. charge time, and a 4.1 Volt charge battery cell has 80% capacity at the cutoff voltage and 165 min. charge time. As all these voltages and charge times differ so obviously the chargers required to charge these different types will differ in configuration too.
