Most batteries that we use at home and in our offices fail because of the little carelessness. Therefore, it is good that we discuss and address this issue to save our batteries and money. You can charge your battery using solar power or common electricity.

However, most gel batteries are maintenance-free, but that doesn't mean they are not vulnerable to damage. Thus, following the right charging procedure should be everyone's duty. We also need to know how to charge dead gel batteries to restore them to life.

Also, we need to understand that charging a battery with solar can be a bit different from charging a battery with electricity. This piece of writing will help us understand all the things that are quite challenging when it comes to gel batteries.

How to Charge a Dead Gel Battery

Like any other battery, gel batteries are prone to death due to some reasons. Some of these reasons are avoidable, while others are not. However, you will notice that many people like these maintenance-free batteries because of their durability, reliability, and versatility.

Charging a dead gel battery does not require any expertise, and you can do it at home or in your garage. As we know, gel batteries produce fewer fumes; thus, you can work with them in a less ventilated place.

The good thing is that gel batteries have fewer charging issues as compared to wet batteries. Thus, even charging a dead gel battery takes less effort and little time. Also, gel batteries are safer than lead-acid batteries because they contain gel instead of a fluid. The process of charging a dead gel battery is as follows:

Before charging your dead battery, it is good that it is fully discharged. If you use it in your car, turn on the vehicle's flashlights and other electrical components. This will drain the battery, and you will discover that the lights become dim when the battery is nearly discharged.

Once the lights dim, turn off the lights and the electrical components. After that, squeeze the handles of the clamp of the black cable from the battery charger using your hand to open its jaws.

Place the open jaws over the gel battery's terminal with the negative sign, then release the pressure so that the jaws close and tighten. Please do the same to the clamp with the red cable but position it on the battery terminal labeled +.

Look at the front of your charger to determine the charge settings that you can set. It is good to charge your battery at the lowest charge setting to revive it. It is not advisable to use boost or fast-charge because it can harm the battery.

The lowest charge setting is usually marked ‘trickle-charge; thus, you need to use that setting. However, other chargers possess a specific setting for gel batteries; hence if you have such, use it. If you do not have a trickle charge or gel settings, it is advisable to charge the battery at a lower rate of about 20% lower than the battery's voltage output.

Plugin your battery charger into the socket, then turn on the charger and let the battery charge. It is good to feel the side of the battery after about 6 hours, and if it is warm, know that you are on the right track. However, if the side of the battery is hot, turn off the charger and allow the battery to cool.

After 24 hours, the battery will be in good condition, and you can use it again.

How to Charge a Gel Blaster Battery

Gel blasters are some toy guns made for indoor and outdoor shooting games and competitions. The batteries used in gel blasters are based on lithium polymer that offers great power in a very tiny package.

Thus, it is always vital to care for the battery because it is vital for the successful operation of the device. One way of caring for a battery is charging it correctly using the approved tools.

When charging a gel blaster battery, you should place it in a fireproof bag. It is a safety need that we must adhere to all the time. Also, never leave the battery unsupervised, and you should never charge this battery in a vehicle.

It is also essential to note that this gel blaster battery should not be charged inside the gel blaster. The good thing is that many chargers are designed and approved by the manufacturer for use in gel blaster batteries. Before starting the charging process, ensure that the charger model you are using is approved for use in that specific battery.

How to Charge a Gel Battery With a Solar Panel

Solar panels are becoming more efficient and affordable sources of renewable energy. Most countries have opted for solar panels because of their ease of use and their reliability. In addition, charging a gel battery with solar panels is a simple process.

Like lead-acid batteries, a gel battery is a solid option to pair with a solar panel system. Gel batteries can be much useful for small off-grid solar systems because they need less maintenance.  However, before charging a gel battery with solar panels, you need to have good solar installation and connection.

You should have the approved gel battery charger because that determines the period that the battery will take to charge. Connect the charger to the battery before connecting it to the power source. Having powerful solar panels will mean that your batteries will charge over a short period.

Thus, it is crucial to follow the right procedure when charging a battery. Also, it is good to use approved tools all the time to avoid damaging your battery.
