Power supply is termed as an electric device that is used to supply power to more than one electric load. In simple terms, it converts a particular type of electrical power into another one. However, it may also convert other forms of energy like chemical, solar, and mechanical. The role of “special power supply manufacturers” is to help in manufacturing special power supply. Constant Current Power Supply
The Convectional stick electrode welder is also called the constant current machine. It is also termed as “ dropper” since it’s voltage drops when the welding current increases. Therefore, it’s voltage ampere output curve drops. This is a great option for manual stick electrode welding since welding is done on steeper portions of the curve.
Apparently, no welding machine produces a constant amount of voltage. The voltage drops by 1 volts in every 100 amp. The open circuit machine normally have lower open circuit voltage compared to constant machine. There are different types of this machine, based on power input (single or three phase), while output ( AC, DC, or AC/DC) and a kind of output control (mechanical or electrical).
Constant Voltage Power Supply
This is another kind of basic arc welding power supply, it gives a constant voltage. Therefore, voltage setting will yield current varying from zero to very high short circuit current. This type of machine is the best option for gas shielded metal arc but it isn’t the best option for stick electrode welding. Apparently, no welding machine can give a constant voltage. In simple terms, voltage can drop to more than 1 volt for every 100 amp output. Short circuit current more amperes of several thousands.

The power supply provides electric energy to different kinds of electronic circuits i.e large machineries and small electronic devices. In simple terms, they power electric circuits through converting/ adapting a single form of electrical power into a different one. The power supply manufacturers role is to help in manufacturing power supply. It is not a guarantee that a power supply manufacturers have to manufacture all the power types. Some have specialized in DC power supply, others AC power supply, while some have specialised in battery power supply. However, it is possible for a single company to manufacture all the three kinds of power supply. The switch mode power supply (Smps) is an electronic power supply whose role is to include switching regulator in order to convert electrical power efficiently. Basically, smps helps to transfer power from AC/DC source into DC load. This power supply can be found in most electrical appliances, more so those that are compact. Some of the appliances with this type of power supply includes, laptop, mobile phones, computers, charging adapters, and more. The history of switched mode power supplies begins in the year 1836. There is evidence that high voltage was generated by inductive coils. At bell labs in the year 1959, Dawon Kahng, and Mohamed. M. Atalla came up with a power MOSFET. The power MOSFETs are switching device used widely, working as a switch mode power supply. There are records showing that in 1958, patients filled by IBM, which shows some smps, situated on transistor oscillation. The most widely known and commercial product to use smps was HP pocket calculator by Hewlett Packard's.
