How to Make 18650 Battery Holder: Making, Connecting, and Working

More significant power means bigger capacity, but what if we don't have them? This is where the battery holder comes into play. If you create your battery holder, you can generate a more significant power and capacity without having to call for professionals. Before we start with our DIY project of 18650 battery holder, let's discuss the basic knowledge of the battery holder. Just what is a battery holder?

As it was stated in the beginning, a battery holder is a solution for those who need more significant power and higher capacity. It is a tool that can connect batteries into one and merge all the capabilities of the cell.

The closest example we can make is a remote control. Remote controls always have a section for batteries at the back. The part combines the two cells to make the remote control work. A battery holder is precisely like that, except you can have more than two batteries. You can use any amount of batteries, but people commonly use batteries in even numbers such as two or four.

Battery holders are available at electric stores. Before buying one, you need to make sure that the battery holder is suitable for your needs. Make sure you ask the clerk whether the battery holder is for parallel connections or series connections. After you know the function of the holder, then you can purchase it.

If you're too lazy to go to every store in your neighborhood, you can always opt to make a battery holder of your own. First, you need to get the tools if you want to know how to make a 18650 battery holder. The tools are:

18650 batteries according to your desire

A universal copper circuit board

Paper clips (the ones for the office)

Generic header pins

Pliers

Micro push-button switch

Soldering iron

The tools don't need to be expensive. You need to make sure that the quality is decent to prevent unnecessary troubles. 

Once you've got the tools, it's time to get working on your 18650 battery holder. Here are the steps to do it:

1.Make an "S" out of the paper clips.

2.Cut the paper clips using pliers to make two "U" out of the clips. One set of "U" clips is used for one battery.

3.Make a second set of "U" from another clip. Make sure the size is according to the number of batteries you are planning to use.

4.Cut the board according to your desire. Make sure all your batteries fit onto the board.

5.Insert the "U" clips at the end of the copper boards.

6.You need to make sure the clips will cover the batteries, so measure the length of the batteries.

7.Once you know the measurement of the cell, put the other "U" clips at the other side of the board

8.Solder the clips so that they're attached well to the board. Make sure the clips won't affect the copper board in any way.

9.Make a straight line out of the remaining clips (the ones not used for the "U"-shaped clips).

10.Attach the straight clips at the end of the soldered clips. If you do it correctly, it will make a rectangular shape. 

11.Get your switch and connect it to one of the clips.

12.Add the pins. They will be the bridge between the devices to the battery.

13. Connect one header pin to the switch. As for the other pin, connect it to the holder terminal. You can use insulated wire to do so

And that's it! You just made your own battery holder!

How do you connect 18650 batteries?

Connecting the 18650 batteries to the battery holder is easy. If you did the steps above, your battery would fit the battery holder. If it fits the holder, it will enter the battery holder smoothly. Turn on the switch, and everything is done correctly, the light will be on. Congratulations! 

What if it doesn't work? Don't worry; the problems are not problems that cannot be resolved. It can be the wires not conducting electricity of the cheap quality of the material. So, make sure that you have materials with excellent standards for the battery holder. They don't have to be expensive, as long as they can do their jobs properly. 

How does a 18650 battery holder work?

You must be wondering how simple household tools can be used as a power easily like that. Everything is thanks to the system of the battery holder. If you connect batteries in parallel, you will only get what it gives. For example, a battery has 3.7A and 10A. If you plug them in parallel, you will get the same volt and 30A. 

However, if you put the batteries in series, then you will get a higher voltage. So if you put the example batteries in series, you will get at least 11.1V and 10A. This is perfect for those who want to get more voltage despite the limitations of their cells.
