What does the battery discharge platform mean?

Every battery comes with a discharge platform. Basically, it is the discharge time of a battery from its fully charged voltage under specific discharge conditions. If the battery has a higher discharge rate, that means it has a higher discharge platform value. Every battery has its own discharge platform value depending on its size and capacity to get charged.

Different sizes of batteries have different discharge platform values, and it would be wise to get a battery with a higher discharge platform value because it would last long. It is obvious that a battery that has more discharge platform value would last long.

If we talk about a brand-new battery, then it would certainly perform at its best, and it would last for hours. Over time the discharge rate will start increasing, and the survival time will decrease.  If we talk about nickel metal hydride, lithium batteries, and Ni-MH batteries, every single one will have its discharge rate.

Over time this process might get a little low, and the discharge speed will get a little faster. This is how the battery runs out of its cycles, and then you must replace it with a new one. 

What does battery working voltage mean?

You might get confused between the battery current and working voltage and find no difference between them. Well, the battery working voltage meaning is the difference in the electrical potential between the anode and cathode of the battery.

You will find a positive charge at the anode and a negative charge at the cathode, and the electrical potential between these two would be the battery working voltage. Voltage is the pressure that keeps the ions moving from the anode to the cathode. If there is a greater difference between the potential charge, the higher the voltage will be.

Before buying any battery, you must check the working voltage of the battery. How much voltage would it require to get recharged? Not all batteries are rechargeable, but still, they will have their working voltage mean.

The voltage of the battery is the battery's energy, and if you get a battery with a higher voltage capacity, then it would be the perfect choice for powerful cordless tools. Yes, these batteries would be the best option for most high-torque applications. Again, you have to decide which battery you would like to have.

To read the voltage, you must know that 1 voltage would be defined as the energy consumption of one joule per electric charge of one coulomb. It surely is a bit of technical detail to keep remembering. So it would be best to choose the battery that goes with the tool you are buying it for.

If the tool is compatible with a battery of higher voltage, then you must get one because it would last long compared to a battery with quite a low working voltage value. 

What does battery charging and discharging rate mean?

How much time would require for the battery to get recharged would be its charging rate, and how long it provides you with energy would be its discharging rate. If we talk about common batteries, then their capacity would be 1C. It means that if a battery has 1Ah, it will have 1A for an hour.  The battery will have one hour working time.

On the other hand, if we talk about the same battery but discharging at 0.5C, it will provide your tool with 500mA for two hours. The same battery at 2C would deliver 2A for thirty minutes.

Now you can understand that the same battery with charging capacity will have different discharging rates depending on the appliance you use it for. If we talk about a small tool, the battery might last 2 hours. On the contrary, if we talk about a tool that talks more energy, then maybe the battery would last for about 30 minutes. 

Therefore, you have to choose a battery with a higher voltage capacity, and it might take a little longer to get recharged, but it will also last long. Even if we talk about non-rechargeable, it won't get recharged, but if it has a higher voltage capacity, it will certainly last long.
